Artist's Comments

The scans never show the colours as bright as they really are :noes:

Something I did at about 3am the other night :| I haven't been in the mood to do anything arty for a while (and I've just had two weeks off from college :noes: So much free time)

I'm gonna start enabling critiques on pretty much all my pieces from now on :D

Info
Tools Fineliner, drawing ink, tiny bit of white acrylic
Time About two hours

EDIT
Changed the eye thanks to *Teefie's critique :D  Thanks!

Critiques

:iconsolarissky:
This painting immediately caught my eye when I saw it. It's vibrant, and the negative space really works to make it pop. I love all of the colour, and for me that's a really hard thing to balance, and I think =kangel has done it perfectly here. I love the shadows cast around her lower lip and right eye... the colours are so incredibly beautiful next to the red. She's used a really interesting technique, that gives each section of the face a different depth, shading, and colour, totally independent of the rest, which is also incredibly well balanced. I love the warmth in the girl's face, and how she seems to beam out at the viewer like a living part of the rainbow.

The only critique I can think of is that the edges are a little too sharp. It may be because of the scan, or maybe some photoshopping, but I think the edges are a bit too crisp.

Beautiful piece overall! I hope to see more like this!

I really love the composition you have going on, it's very strong and the negative space is amazing. The colours you have chosen really work well with the piece as well. I think you have a really good handle of the medium too, which is always nice to see. However, I think that her left eye (our right) doesn't seem to go well with her other eye, if the iris were a little bigger, it wouldn't seem to be going in a different direction as it does now. Besides that, I really love this piece, especially how you've blended the background and foreground on the lefthand side of it. The white highlighting lines give some definition to the back of the head without breaking up the nice blending you've got going on, and I really like that. Great job!

(This is my first critique on dA! Yay!)
